Hege Aurelie Badendyck, editor-in-chief of The Cool Girl magazine, puts together the most stylish outfits. Micro Macro recently had the opportunity to talk with Hege about her look. Let's take notes from this Norwegian fashion maven and take a peek at some of her streetstyle highlights...
How would you describe your style identity in 3 words?
Laid back, playful, and in constant change.
What’s your favourite item in your closet right now?
I guess its a checked Miu Miu coat that I bought in New York in January. The colours are so good and its the perfect spring coat I would say.
When it comes to your style, do you prefer to be a minimalist, or maximalist?
I guess I'm neither actually. Or something in between. What I wear depends on my mood, the climate, and where I am in the world. I don't like to think that I have any limitations by putting a label on my style. At the moment I'm planning a trip to Tulum...it looks like it will be a very colourful wardrobe!
We love the way you pair colours in your looks, how do you piece together outfits in such a complementary way?
Well thank you! I've been working as a stylist for many years so I guess I've practiced a lot..haha. I always start with a favourite piece that I know I want to wear - laying on my bed thinking and pairing it with a couple of alternatives from my closet to see how I can get the best out of each piece...how to make them shine.
On your travels, do you feel you change up your style depending on where you are in the world?
Definitely! It totally depends on the mood and the climate. And, sometimes, when its minus 15 degrees here in Oslo it can be a bit tricky to pack clothes for high summer and the beach life and to understand what kind of mood you will be in for the coming summer trip.
Whose closet have you been secretly dying to raid?
No doubt Leandra Medine's closet @leandramcohen. She has so many great, unique pieces, a lot of colours, fun accessories, and shoes to die for!
When it comes to fashion, how do you bend the rules?
I don't feel there are so many rules I need to follow. We are living in a time with so many different trends and different directions to take. There's no right or wrong anymore when it comes to what to wear and how to wear it. I love that.
Have there been any awkward phases in your style?
Many! Thats the down side of being into fashion. I've always loved to dress up though, even as a kid, and as a teenager I loved to try out different looks(!) When I see pics of me and my friends from when I was 15, they look pretty normal while I have these crazy purple extensions, the highest Buffalo shoes, and tie dye tights. I've been through a lot of different style journeys!
To tie in with our current theme Nostalgia, is there a piece of clothing you no longer have, that you wish you could resurrect from a bygone era?
Well, taking about Buffalo shoes, I thought my mum had thrown them all away, and I was really sad, thinking that those shoes are actually a part of the fashion history. But then I realised my little collection is still at my childhood home.
What is your mantra in life?
It's a cliche of course, but to never stop being curious.
